Truth about BP's Corporate Social Responsibility

A controversy over corporate social responsibility is going on in Badin among the British Petroleum of UK, civil society organizations including Actionaid Pakistan, Badin Rural Development Society (BRDS), the People?s Rights Action Committee Badin and other groups. These groups under the umbrella of the People?s Rights Action Committee Badin at their meeting on 27th July 2005 chalked out a campaign schedule to press for the rights of the people of Badin which have been violated by a Britain based multinational extractive company British Petroleum BP. Amid this controversy, BP claims of spending huge sums on various projects in Badin as their corporate social responsibility while the civil society deny and refute claims of BP saying nothing is being done in the interests of the communities.

Communities from Badin, a coastal district in southern Pakistan , protested against alleged violations by oil conglomerate BP at the World Social Forum on Monday (January 22), accusing the company of neglecting community interests while making large profits form mineral resources, writes Shafqat Munir.

"Badin the oil and gas rich district of Pakistan is the poorest area on the human development index with only 3% girls’ education and 10-15% boys education and limited health, livelihood and potable water facilities," said Dr Akash Ansari, a leader of Badin Rural Development Society (BRDS).

"The reason is very simple. British Petroleum is extracting oil and gas in huge quantities and earning billions of dollar, but not even one percent of this profit is being spent on community development and environment protection, even though the company claims they are doing this."

BP denies that it is neglecting local people saying it offers "financial support to projects in health, education and infrastructure development."

But Dr Ansari said that: "if the company was fulfilling its claims, the district would not still be the poorest district in the country."

BRDS in partnership with Actionaid in Pakistan (AAPK) and local communities of the operational area at Badin is campaigning for the rights of the affected communities.
They are demanding that the company should follow international human rights law and invest a fair proportion of its gains in education, health and strengthening local livelihoods.
Despite being the poorest area of Pakistan , it is rich in natural resources, producing over two-thirds of Pakistan ’s entire crude oil output and 44% of its natural gas.

District Badin is most southern district of the country having population of 1.5 million and by natural resources it is richest District of Pakistan due to huge reservoirs of high quality natural petroleum and natural Gas.
In the 2000 it was declared the poorest District of the Country by World Bank and Government of Pakistan. The poverty rate is 90%.The extractive industry emerged Badin in early 80s, now all the extractive operations and production are carried out by a Single Multinational Company British Petroleum BP.

This is not fair talk. Pakistan is still young nations.They have good secular elites. Common people are energetic and peace loving be they Punjabi or xyz. They have many problems like other poor and developing countries. Lets help them get rid of the i) landlords' ii) corrupt bureaucracy iii) ambitious and selfish generals messing into politics and governance iv) support free media and civil society v) give democracy time and energy through education and pluralistic.

Governance is all about process-decision-making processes that
(i) hold individuals accountable;
(ii) encourage stakeholder participation;
(iii) facilitate the flow of information;
Rely on open and clear rules that are fairly and uniformly enforced. But the dilemma with Pakistan and peculiarly with the current Punjab regime is taking the decision in isolation. In this era of information technology bureaucracy of Punjab have taken another unique approach to wipe out the agriculture of Pakistan particularly downstream including Sindh by sabotaging the source of monsoon rainfall in Indus and Jehlum watershed. This time the stunning model of good Governance of famous bureaucracy of Punjab, is to develop new township over the monsoon rainfall harvester of Pakistan.
The consummate decision to build the new city at Patriata, by clearing the thick forest without consultation with the stake holder, will further fade the relationships between the provinces. In the recently scientific finding of different international agencies, dully published in daily DAWN and THE NEWS, that forest of Patriata is the monsoon rain harvester for the whole Pakistan. The same forest was declared reserved for the purpose of monsoon harvesting for the Indus and Jehlum basin in 1886 then by the British rulers.
According to recent IUCN studies "The Forests of Patriata on high altitudes (2000 m+) harvest (18 %) additional precipitation. In the case of closed-canopy of conifer stands, the interception of precipitation is 25 to 50 per cent more than bare mountain. Interception also increases with growing age and density of conifer stands and increases to 25 percent at 120 years. Furthermore mountain covered by frequent fog, is able to condensate by 30 to 50 per cent more than the open land,"
By cutting the forest for the tourist city will affect the flow in Indus and Jehlum rivers which ultimately badly impinge on the agriculture sector of Pakistan, which is not only an economic activity but also has the strong historical and cultural linkages. Any fluctuation in the agricultural sector has direct implication on the life of people of Pakistan. Agriculture sector being the prime sector of Pakistan economy as a single largest sector contributes 25% of GDP, employs 44% country's workforce and contributes substantially to export earnings.

Over this criminal theft over the rights of downstream including Sindh, till day only Indus River System Authority (IRSA) registered its strong protest over this project including the unilateral pumping of Jehlum River water for the controversial New Murree Project by Punjab.
It is regretted say that in Pakistan all democratic political parties and including the radical Nationalist forums from Sindh and Balochistan kept quiet on this mage.
One of the reasons for creating controversy and difference of opinion on the project is attributed to GOPu’s failure to adequately consult the provinces at the project planning and design stage, since the provinces were kept in complete darkness about the adverse effect on the monsoon interceptor for whole Pakistan
We believes that that development of new Murree project and the unilateral pumping of Jehlum River water for the controversial project are unjustified and tantamount to a negation of the 1991 Water Apportionment Accord. On this absolute serious blunder who will raise the issue Imran Khan, Bashir Khan Qureshi, Palijo, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Asfend yar walli, common citizen of Pakistan.

Proof No. 1 Afghan War

During Afghan war, USA provided all kinds of support to "mujahideens". This is well proven fact throughout the world. These mujaheedeens were consists of arab, tajik, pasthuns, punjabis, uzbeks and shias. Pakistan army provided the "land of pakistan" for training camps of these mujahdeens and in the same time pakistan army was also "stealing" the USA provided weapons to these mujahdeens. At the same time pakistani army was also involved in "herione - drug mafia" and earned billon of dollar in "herione smuggling". We all know that now all these mujaheedeens are "terriorists".

Proof No. 2: Taliban Emergence

Taliban are by product of Pakistan Army. Pakistan army wanted to have full control of afghanistan, kashmir, tajikistan, uzbekistan, turkaministan and Iran. Those extereme pathan and punjabi journals like General Babar, General Hamid Gul, Gerenral Zia-Ul-Haq and lot of other army officer were always wanted to "conquer" Indo-Pakistan and central asia.
Pakistan army not only gave birth to Taliban but gave all kinds of support to them. That is why taliban rulled 5 years afgahnistan.

Proof No. 3 : Al-Qaeda

Pakistan army providing "direct support" to Al-Qaeda during Afghan war and after Afghan war they still providing direct or indirect full support to al-qaida members. Osma bin laden was the hero of islam according to most army officers and jamat islami party members. Pakistan Army knew that Taliban and Al-Qaeda have same relations as one can find between "wife and husband". In order to full fill their dream of ruling whole central asia and south asia they gave full support to taliban and indirectly to al-qaeda.

Pakistan Army protray or pretend to whole world that there are "kashmiri fighters" in kashmir who want to freedom from india. But in reality they are "pakistan army trained terriorsts". These terriorsts are well organised and well coordinated and they get all their weapons from pakistan army and money from "drug smuggling". These kashmiri mujahideens have same with Al-qaeda as taliban had with al-qaeda.

But in reality there was not a single mujahideen were there and all of them were memeber of Pakistan Northern Infantiary (a military group from northern pakistan area of gilgit and balitistan and kargil).
Pakistan Northern Infantiary commonly known as NLI is composed 99% of ethnic baltistani/gilgiti peoples. They speak balti language which is closer to "Farsi & Turkish". These peoples are mostly of "SHIA" muslims. These peoples lives on both side of border of india and pakistan in the kargil area.
Actually NLI jawans (balti jawans) were fighting the war against india but pakistani army pretend that kashmiri fighters were fighting. After the end of war Pakistan punjabi army realised that "NLI is a great danger to PUNJABI supermacy" because these 4000 thousands NLI balti jawans fight against indian army that no example can be found in the history of modern wars. Coward Pakistan punjabi officers feared that any time these NLI balti jawans can stand against pakistani punjabi army to fight for their rights. Pakistan punjabi army know that they can't fight so bravely as these NLI balti jawans and history proof their cowardness in 1971 humailiting defeat in Dhaka in Banglades when 90000 pakistani punjabi and pathan army surrended in front of indian army.
So Pakistan Punjabi army disband NLI forever and made it a part of pakistan army.

Proof NO. 6: Terriosm in India:

It is well known fact that pakistan army ISI is providing all support to "terriorist" in india. these terriorist include assami fighters, tamil fighters, nepali fighters, muslim fighters, kashmiri fighters and other separatiest groups of india country. Pakistan army and ISI is also involved in Hindu-Muslim riots in india because they want to pretend to whole world that in india muslims are crashed and suffereing so they want to destroy the image of indian secularacy and democracy.

Pakistan army and ISI is also involved (most of time) in terriost activities within pakistan. They follow the basic rule of "divide and rule" which they learned from their english masters.
In pakistan they have created different organisations to kill each other sects peoples. Like Sipha Saiba Pakistan is an organisations of extreme sunni muslims. Pakistan army provided full support to them because they were a part of al-qaeda and taliban. most sipha saiba pakistani member have admitted to be trained in afghanistan in the camps of al-qaeda and taliban. pakistan army also help sipha saiba pakistan to crush shias in pakistan and in afghanistan and in iran.
Pakistan army created MQM party in karachi to counter balance sindhi extremist in sindh province.
Pakitan army created problems in balochistan in between balochis and pathans and hazarvis.
Pakistan army in the northern pakistan created problems within shia and sunni in the area of gilgit, chirtral, sukrudu and balitistan. pakistan army fear that "shia muslims" are anti-american and therefore they are danger to pakistani punjabi army because pakistan punjabi army is "totally dependent on usa".

Proof No. 8: Crimes within Bangladesh

Banglades was a part of pakistan till 1971. Pakistan army extreme punjabi and pathans journesl and army officers always hated bengalis very much and consider them as "insects". They think they are supperiors and bengalis are inferiors. During 30 years of history of bangladesh from 1947 to 1971 they did enormous crimes in bangladesh and killed around 3 millions bengalis during 1971 independence war. So pakistani punjabi army is the most "criminal army of the world".

right now pakistani army is taking very serious actions against taliban and al-qaeda members in pakistan. but these all actions are due to "fear of usa army possible attacks on pakistani army".
pakistani army is a coward army and they have a strong fear of usa army and they know thay dis-obeying usa army means "death of pakistani army". because of these fears of usa army pakistani army is now eliminating all members of al-qaeda and taliban.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN PAKISTAN:

USA army along with other europeen country army shoudl invade pakistan. Dis-arm pakistani army. Distroy all their weapons and atmoic weapons. Arrests all pakistani high ranking officers and hang them or give them to local pakistani peoples. USA and international coliation army should distintegrate present pakistani army and form a new a pakistani army and police consisting of all ethnic groups of pakistan. They should divide pakistan into 100 provinces. They should form a new goverment of pakistan consisting of all pakistani ethnic groups. They should stay in pakistan for atleast 5 years. They should restore democracy and justice in pakistan. They should ban all religious parties of pakistan. They should start "corruption-free" movement in pakistan. They should recover all "looted money" from rich and hihly influced peoples of pakistan.
